Youth Empowerment Program

Funded by Public Safety’s Building Safer Communities Fund, the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) has been created to meet the needs of youth in Miramichi aged 12 - 18 who are faced with barriers and risk factors for criminality. Youth Empowerment Workers aim to lower risks and strengthen support for young people. They assess needs, help set goals, and provide guidance as youth pursue their aspirations. Besides goal-setting, they create opportunities for youth to enhance their experiences and build relationships with family, friends, and the wider community.

Eligibility Criteria
This program operates on a referral basis. To be eligible, youth must be between the ages of 12 and 18 and willing to engage with a Youth Empowerment Worker.
Referrals can be made from the following sources:

  • Self-referral

  • Parents or guardians

  • Partnering departments or organizations, including public safety, social development, education, health, etc.

  • Medical professionals such as doctors or social workers

  • Other sources as deemed appropriate

This structured approach ensures that youth receive the support they need to navigate challenges and build meaningful connections in their lives.
